Here on the High Plains and all across the country, we benefit from a uniquely American system of public media. It’s a system based on local stations with missions of serving the civic, educational and cultural needs of their local communities. Collectively, these local stations serve 99% of the country’s population every day with entirely free, easily accessible and high-quality programming.

Oklahoma lawmakers have entered the final three weeks of the 60th regular legislative session. Hundreds of bills have been sent to Gov. Kevin Stitt, and he's already acted on some. Still looming: budget negotiations. -
Judge Janis Jack, who called Texas' foster care system 'broken' in a 2015 ruling against the state that started the process of federal court oversight, may not be done with the case she presided over for 13 years just yet. -
With elder abuse cases in Kansas on the rise, investigators are taking on three times the number of cases they can adequately manage. The state says it can't release data on caseloads but advocates say metrics for evaluating elder abuse are lacking. -
Oklahoma released the names and tax credit amounts for thousands of residents using the Parental Choice Tax Credit, which mostly benefited higher-income families. The data release came after months of delay and pressure from Oklahoma Watch under the state's transparency laws. -
Senate Bill 1999 would bar punishment against public employees and students who misgender their peers. The bill now heads to the Texas House for consideration.
