President Donald Trump is targeting the Smithsonian Institution  as part of his latest effort to dismantle prominent resources for arts with Vice President JD Vance leading the efforts. According to CNN , Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to cut funding for the Smithsonian. The executive order states that the government will stop funding “exhibits or programs that degrade shared American values, divide Americans based on race, or promote programs or ideologies inconsistent with Federal law and policy,” according to CNN. “Once widely respected as a symbol of American excellence and a global icon of cultural achievement, the Smithsonian Institution has, in recent years, come under the influence of a divisive, race-centered ideology,” the order states, per CNN. “This shift has promoted narratives that portray American and Western values as inherently harmful and oppressive.” Why is the Smithsonian Institution significant?
