Despite disappointing home sales trends at a national level, one state in the U.S. South saw increased sales last month - though analysts warn buyers of an ongoing inventory crisis. While rates fell throughout the country last month, sales in this state rose year over year for the first time in nearly three years. Existing home sales for the month of April jumped 9.78 percent to 1,122 year to date. Furthermore, the median sold price climbed 4.97 percent from March and 6.51 percent from April 2023. Despite this good news, the U.S. housing market at large continues to face a housing shortage, compounded by factors including the Great Recession and rising mortgage rates.

Trump was the first former president to ever address the Libertarian National Convention, a group that will be picking their own presidential nominee this weekend as they gather in D.C. at the Washington Hilton. But neither Trump nor his supporters were well received. Members of the crowd booed the former president, several turned their backs on him and they screamed over his pleas to have the Libertarians join the Republicans to beat President Joe Biden. 'Now I think you should nominate me or at least vote for me because the Libertarians want to vote for me and most of them will,' Trump yelled over a mix of boos and cheers. In a sign of the reception Trump would receive, Vivek Ramaswamy was booed as he tried to convince the crowd that Trump was their best choice for president.

President Joe Biden will address the verdict in Donald Trump's hush money case once it happens with his campaign pondering a new nickname for the former president if he's convicted. The president has, thus far, remained silent on the on-going case in New York. But that will change after the jury reaches its verdict.  The exact wording is still being worked out but Biden will speak about the trial from the White House to show his statement isn't political, sources said.

Sarah Alden, a 53-year-old woman who was brutally assaulted last month, was taken off life support after being in a coma for nearly two months. Alden had just moved to Venice Beach, California, fulfilling a lifelong dream, when she and another woman, Mary Klein, were attacked on April 6. The suspect, Anthony Francisco Jones, was arrested on April 11 and charged with multiple offenses, including rape and attempted murder. Alden's family, devastated by the loss, plans to donate her organs. The assaults have left Venice residents shocked and concerned about safety in their community.

Dominican actress and former Miss Universe contestant Massiel Taveras became the latest star to clash with the same security guard on the Cannes red carpet on Saturday afternoon. She was preparing to unfurl a huge gown with a depiction of Jesus on it, but appeared surprised to be stopped by the security guard. Footage of the spat showed Taveras defy instructions and throw the train of her dress down the stairs, before the situation escalated to the actress shoving the female security guard as she walked into the event. It came just days after the same guard was scolded by Rowland on the red carpet, which the Destiny's Child implied was due to racism that led the staffer's colleagues to insist she was 'only doing her job.'

At least five people in Texas, including children, were reported dead after a tornado ripped through the northeastern section of the state, as severe weather and power outages in the central US puts a damper on Memorial Day weekend festivities. The five deaths were in Cooke County, Texas, with three fatalities occurring in a single household, Sheriff Ray Sappington told CNN.

With an estimated $31 million over four days, the 'Mad Max' prequel is the lowest chart-topper for the May holiday since 'Casper' in 1995. Residents in a wealthy America town have been left outraged after their stunning lakefront views were ruined by an eye-sore fence erected to limit beach access. Visitors to Gillson Park's South Beach in Wilmette, Illinois , which is less than 20 miles north of Chicago , will also now have to pay a fee to access the now-fenced off area. Wilmette Park District said it had introduced the changes due to an increase in conflicts between beachgoers and park staff since the pandemic, which have resulted in police being called 'many times', Patch.com reported. But one furious resident described the new fence, which was approved at a March committee meeting and installed earlier this month, as an 'abomination'.

At the Washington State Championship, transgender teen athlete Veronica Garcia was booed after winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.75 seconds. Garcia, representing East Valley School District, finished a full second ahead of the first biologically female runner, Lauren Matthew. While there was cheering at the finish line, boos emerged as Garcia took her first-place position on the podium. Public schools in Washington allow athletes to compete based on their gender identity without requiring evidence of medical transition. Following Garcia's win, former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines, an anti-trans activist, criticized the result on social media.

Sergio Perez walked away unscathed from a huge 160mph crash on a crazy opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix.
