What started out as a morning of heavy rains and downpours turned out to be an afternoon of sunny skies for the University of the Virgin Islands, Albert A. Sheen Campus “MVP” Class of 2024 graduates. The University conferred over 80 degrees to graduates at the ceremony.

V.I. National Park Moving Ahead With Caneel Bay Transition to NPS

Virgin Islands National Park announced Thursday that it is actively working to transition Caneel Bay Resort on St. John to National Park Service management, following an April 22 U.S. District Court ruling affirming the United States’ ownership of the land and ordering EHI Acquisitions, LLC to convey and transfer title of the improvements immediately. 

Blackout’s Daylong Disruption Aided By Misinformation

At roughly 2:30 Thursday morning, a fuel coupling in one of the Water and Power Authority’s 20-year-old units broke, triggering an emergency shutdown that knocked out electrical currents across St. Thomas and St. John. It took power plant personnel about three hours to track down the broken part, WAPA officials said, but much longer to get electricity flowing steadily again.

Governor Vetoes Three-Step WAPA Fix Proposed by Senate

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. on Thursday vetoed a trio of bills passed by the Senate last month that were meant to put the V.I. Water and Power Authority on firmer financial footing for the rest of the fiscal year and, among other things, restructure language about how and when a state of emergency can be declared.

Jean B. Prince of St. Croix died on April 27. She was 89 years old.
