State seeking overturning of entire GTU decision by Justice Kissoon

Saying that it is “dissatisfied with the whole” of the April 19 decision of Justice Sandil Kissoon in which he issued a stinging rebuke to the Ministry of Education, the state yesterday filed a notice of appeal against the judgment and it is also seeking a stay of execution of part of the judgment that bars the Education Minis-try from discontinuing the deduction of union dues from teacher’ salaries and remitting same to the GTU.

Car and pole:

This car ran into a GPL pole on Tuesday after a collision with a bus near the junction of Camp and New Market streets. The car was badly damaged. No serious injury was reported.

Prison Service gets $8m speedboat and engine

The Ministry of Home Affairs yesterday handed over a speedboat and a 200-horsepower engine, valued at some $8 million, to the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) in an effort to boost the Service’s operational efficiency, a GPS release stated.
