Washington state officially commemorated its first Water Safety Day on May 15, an initiative spurred by the enactment of Yori’s Law (House Bill 1750). This law, named in honor of Yori Tsunoda—a 3-year-old boy who tragically drowned in 2018—aims to enhance water safety awareness and promote swimming education throughout the state.

This year’s event, themed “Empowering Black Press, Communities, Families, and Voter Turnout,” marks the Black Press’s 197th anniversary, just three years shy of its bicentennial.

In the spring of 2019, the National Urban League’s State of Black America report was the first to highlight the extent of Russian efforts to deceive, manipulate and exploit Black voters in the 2016 presidential election. Now, as the 2024 presidential election approaches, the Russians are at it again, armed with new technology and new techniques.
