A 23-year-old man was on Wednesday sentenced to 18 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to an armed robbery charge.
Videsh Persaud appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates Court, where the charge was read. The court heard that on April 29, 2025, at Quamina Street, Persaud robbed Abigail Valentine of a cellphone valued at $35,000 and a bag valued at $8,000, totalling $43,000.
Persaud pleaded guilty to the charge and told the court he had returned the stolen items to the victim. However, Valentine clarified that he only did so after being apprehended by public-spirited citizens.
Taking into consideration his early guilty plea and the fact that it was his first offense, Magistrate Azore sentenced Persaud to 18 months’ imprisonment.
