Machinery Corporation of Guyana Ltd (MACORP), the authorised Caterpillar dealer in Guyana, recently facilitated a comprehensive 3516 Generator Set – Operator Training Programme for ten employees of Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) representing operations in Berbice, Kwakwani, and Essequibo, a MACORP release stated.

It explained that the initiative was designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge, skills, and attitude required to operate CAT generator sets safely and efficiently, in alignment with manufacturer-recommended best practices.

According to the release, the intensive two-day training included both classroom instruction and hands-on practical sessions.

Participants were guided through critical concepts and demonstrated their proficiency in key operational areas, including: Power Generation Safety Procedures, Operator Roles and Responsibilities, Overview and System Principles of the CAT 3516 Generator Set, Identification and Function of Generator Set Components, Pre-Start Inspections & Start-up Procedures, Load Management and Operational Monitoring, and Shutdown & Post-Operation Protocols.

Training Manager at MACORP, Miguel Oviedo, stated that the company was proud to provide technical support to GPL and other clients to ensure efficiency in their operations. “We remain committed to delivering continuous technical support and capacity-building opportunities, empowering our customers and teams to maintain peak performance and safety across their operations.”

Each participant underwent a competency certification process at the conclusion of the training, ensuring they are prepared to apply what they’ve learned on the job with confidence and professionalism.

The GPL group formed part of an 85-member training taking place at MACORP. Other personnel are being trained as technicians, and excavator and forklift operators.
