One of the recipients of the Copyright Fund, Zomba Arts Platform, which spearheads Zomba City Festival, has said it is set to engage in a number of undertakings for the development of the arts including holding capacity-building workshops.
Zomba Arts Platform is part of the 20 beneficiaries that received a total of K114, 292,800 in the third call for applications for the Copyright Fund driven by Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma).
The arts organisation’s communications officer, Dereck Nyirenda, said the K5 million package they have received will support them to have a diverse line-up of talented artists and at the same time hold a series of capacity building workshops.
Zomba City Festival to be held in eight stages in five venues runs from April 26 to 28 2024.
“Zomba City Festival promises to be more impactful with this backing. As indicated, key highlights include capacity building workshops for artists aimed at skill enhancement and professional development,” he said.
Nyirenda said workshops to be conducted include stage performance techniques, grooming and etiquette talk by Mubanga Mumu, modeling workshop with Crista Phiri and Deejaying workshop for women by Tiwale.
On the diverse line-up, Nyirenda said this year, fun lovers will have a chance of seeing talented artists such as Trappy Beats, ProVoice, Merchach and Sagonjah.
“We would like to thank Cosoma for investing in artist development which is part of fostering growth in Malawi’s arts sector,” he said.
Recently Zap officials twere also selected as participants in the collaborative European spaces partnership project called ‘Future is Female’.
This is a collaborative initiative that is aimed to empower female creatives and project managers in the country through an incubation programme.
Meanwhile, Copyright Fund Manager Blessings Botha has congratulated the 20 beneficiaries for their success and dared them to use the funds in a proper way to help bring about change in the creative industry.
“We are excited that many creatives are participating and they are coming from different disciplines across the country. This is a fund for them and it is all about equipping them to advance in their artistry and help in generating forex for the country,” Botha said.
Copyright Fund Committee has since made a fourth call for proposals and the deadline is June 13 2024.
