Week 2 of the NFL season is upon us and with it comes another chance to reign supreme over your fantasy football leagues. Make sure you’re checking back weekly as we discuss who you should start or sit for the upcoming weekend.

One quick side note…there are tons of obvious players who you should be starting (or sitting). We don’t need to talk about those here. Remember to stick with your studs even if they had a dud of a week 1…and there were plenty that fit these criteria. But it’s those 50/50 players, waiver wire additions, or backups who split time that we’ll talk about here. As always, see below and let me know where I’m right or wrong…

Quarterbacks

Start ’em – Jayden Daniels

Washington Commanders v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jayden Daniels – I think Daniels proved in week 1 that his floor is maybe higher than we initially thought. Make sure you read that again…his floor, not his ceiling. He’s obviously an elite prospect. But against Tampa Bay he ran 16 times for 88 yards and 2 TD. While that touchdown production might not be there every week, I do expect his legs to be a big part of the Washington offense. Plus, let’s be honest, his passing numbers should look better as he’s facing the bottom feeding Giants on Sunday.

Sit ’em – Joe Burrow

NFL: SEP 08 Patriots at Bengals

Joe Burrow – Did you see the video of Burrow not being able to hold the Gatorade bottle?! It’s obvious that wrist is still not right. Combine this with injury at WR and notorious slow starts and you wonder if Sunday in KC could be messy for the Bengals.

Running Backs

Start’em – David Montgomery & Jahmyr Gibbs

NFL: SEP 08 Rams at Lions

David Montgomery & Jahmyr Gibbs – Last year I rolled the dice in a league and started both Miami Dolphins RB…Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane. And more times than not the strategy worked. I believe the same could be true for the Lions this season. Gibbs had 15 touches and was over 17 fantasy points in week 1, while Montgomery had 18 touches and 16 fantasy points. Both guys got in the endzone and complement each other really well. Plus, we know the Lions want to pound the football.

Start’em – Gus Edwards

Gus Edwards – Everyone is talking about JK Dobbins after his big week 1, and they’re not wrong. Dobbins was fantastic. But quietly Edwards got the start and still touched the ball 12 times. My gamble here is Edwards gets the tough yards at the end of the game as the Chargers wear down the hopeless Panthers.

Sit’em – Javonte Williams

Green Bay Packers v Denver Broncos

Javonte Williams – Williams was one of my more disappointing players in week 1. He had less reps and carries than fellow back Jaleel McLaughlin while having no receiving production. Combine that with the Steelers defense rolling into town and it’s a recipe for low production yet again.

Sit’em – Zach Moss

Zach Moss – Derrick Henry just ran for 46 yards against the Chiefs defense. That certainly doesn’t bode well for the Bengals or Moss. I expect game flow to mean more Chase Brown with Moss carrying the ball maybe 10-13 times.

Wide Receiver

Start ’em Jameson Williams

Los Angeles Rams v Detroit Lions

Jameson Williams – Has Jameson Williams finally arrived? After injuries and issues holding on to the football, he sure looked good on Sunday. Williams was targeted 9 times and had 5 catches, 121 yards, and 1 TD in the win. It should also be mentioned he earned a 32% target share while Amon-Ra St. Brown had just a 21% target share.

Start ’em – Michael Pittman Jr.

NFL: SEP 08 Texans at Colts

Michael Pittman Jr – Speaking of target share, let’s discuss MPJ. Most fantasy owners probably drafted Pittman high enough that of course you’re still rolling with him in week 2. But, just in case your confidence is wavering, consider this…Pittman was targeted in 8 of Anthony Richardson’s 19 passing attempts. That’s a whooping 42% target share, easily the most in the NFL in week 1.

Sit ’em – Green Bay Packers Wideouts

Green Bay Packers wideouts – I love Jayden Reed, but guys, Malik Willis stinks. If the Colts can’t stop the worst QB option in the league, then they’ll have some real soul searching to do.

Sit ’em – Drake London

Pittsburgh Steelers v Atlanta Falcons

Drake London – Philly’s secondary is not as good as Pittsburgh but I still am not in love with Drake London. Despite having a 100% route participation in week 1, London still had just 2 catches, 3 targets, and 15 yards. Plus, Kirk Cousins can’t plant off his back foot. If you have better options, I’d consider them.

Tight End

Start ’em – Colby Parkinson

Los Angeles Rams v Detroit Lions

Colby Parkinson – I added Parkinson to my “start ’em” list simply due to circumstances. Second year WR Puka Nacua will miss extended time and fellow TE Tyler Higbee will miss the next 3 weeks. Matthew Stafford has to throw the ball to someone!

Sit ’em – Brock Bowers

Las Vegas Raiders v Los Angeles Chargers

Source: Harry How / Getty

Brock Bowers – The Ravens allowed just 6.4 fantasy points to Travis Kelce last week. In fact, since the start of last season Baltimore has allowed an average of 9.1 fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends. Plus, the Raiders stink.

Defense

Start ’em – Colts Defense

Houston Texans v Indianapolis Colts

Colts – If you’re playing the waiver wire game for defenses this might be a good one to pick up. I don’t see the Colts being gashed in the running game against the Packers (at least not as bad as week 1) and again, Malik Willis stinks.

Sit ’em – Saints Defense

Carolina Panthers v New Orleans Saints

Saints – Again, I’m trying to point out matchups that might be tricky. But after a huge week 1 you have to think on the road in Dallas will be a much tougher test than Carolina…the worst team in the NFL!
