Dear Editor,
What a first week of the new school year: schools rebuilt; new schools constructed and commissioned; pit latrines to a school without basic facility – working toilet; lamentations about the new laboratory at a secondary school; some schools affected by electrical issues.
Now a still reconstructing school had a start, stop, start again to the new year only to temporarily shut due to ongoing unresolved water and sanitation challenges (SN September 8). So the school reopen-ed with the authorities knowing the lacking, functioning washroom facilities.
It was reported a visit by the media entity revealed ‘significant construction work was still underway’ in sections of the school. So how do these situations translate to a safe and conducive environment?
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
