Waterford High School’s commitment to ‘stimulating and equipping students with knowledge and skills through teamwork and play’, this year’s theme for extracurricular activity, was vividly brought to life at the recent pinning ceremony of the school’s Photography Club. This inaugural event was made all the more special with the presence of the club’s founder and mentor, Gerald A. Gordon, a distinguished alumnus and a renowned fine art photographer and creative director.

Gordon, who has won multiple awards and national acclaim for his work, provided a platform for students to explore the art of photography in a collaborative and engaging environment.

Principal of the Waterford High School, Constance Curriah, in her welcoming remarks, highlighted the alignment, saying, “The photography club has created a space where students can grow in the arts and leverage their creativity as a developmental tool. We are excited about the future opportunities that the club will present to its members,” Curriah said.

The event was further enriched by the words of Donnette Ingrid Zacca, a veteran photographer whose career has inspired countless individuals. “I am pleased by Gerald’s unwavering commitment and the infectious enthusiasm that has evidently spread among the students,” Zacca said.

She encouraged them to embrace the limitless possibilities that acquiring new skills in photography can offer.

During the pinning ceremony, Gordon shared his vision of the Photography Club as a space where students can learn not just the technical aspects of photography, but also the soft skills that come with teamwork and collaborative play.

“Our plans for the club’s future involve engaging the students in real-world projects that will enhance their learning experience and prepare them for future success in any endeavour they choose to pursue,” Gordon said.

He announced his fundraising campaign to purchase and donate a camera to the school. “This act of generosity underscores our dedication to providing the students with not just knowledge and skill training but also the tools necessary to practise their craft,” he said.

“The pinning ceremony, therefore, was more than a mere formality; it was a celebration of the Photography Club’s commitment to the theme of the year. As the pins were affixed to the members’ garments, it symbolised the club’s dedication to fostering an environment where creativity, play, and teamwork come together to create a rich learning experience,” he added.
