Public input will be sought when developers heading the Bull’s Head Revitalization project convene later this month.
DevelopROC, the team behind transformation of the Bull’s Head neighborhood, will update the public on project progress at 6 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the first floor meeting room of the St. Mary’s Campus at 89 Genesee St.
The Bull’s Head Revitalization project aims to restore a once-thriving city neighborhood after decades of disinvestment. ESL Federal Credit Union is the first business to commit to the area, announcing last month its plans to build a full-service branch on West Main Street near Genesee Street.
DevelopROC is comprised of national developers who specialize in rebuilding neighborhoods as well as local stakeholders. The collaboration was co-founded by Melissa James-Geska, president of Henrietta-based US Ceiling Corp.; Dennis Pemberton, executive managing partner of Pensacola, Fla.-based The Dawson Co.; and Brian Murray, CEO of Philadelphia-based Shift Capital.
The informational session will outline project milestones, share plans on how developers intend to restore livability and vibrancy, and give the public a chance to provide thoughts.
“Public input is critical as we reimagine a future for Bull’s Head,” Rochester Mayor Malik Evans said in a news release. “It will once again become a vibrant and hope-filled neighborhood, and will overcome its history of disinvestment.
“The partners that make up DevelopROC have a proven track record for meaningful redevelopment in cities with challenged neighborhoods.”
US Ceiling Corp is a Minority and Women owned Business Entity (MWBE) social impact contractor that has served the Rochester area for more than 20 years. The Dawson Co. is a second-generation African-American-0wned firm specializing in urban multifamily and mixed-used development. Shift Capital is a neighborhood investment group focused on real estate financing strategies that create equitable communities.
“DevelopROC believes in the power of community collaboration and recognizes the importance of keeping the public informed about ongoing initiatives that shape the local landscape,” James-Geska said. “This event allows community members to be part of the conversation and contribute to the continued success of the Bull’s Head Revitalization project.”
