Grand Palace Hotel in Mzuzu Tuesday underlined its commitment to supporting the creative sector in the country when it pumped K5 million into hip-hop artist Gwamba’s show.
The concert, dubbed Gwamba Unlimited, will be held at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday.
The development comes barely a month after TNM also supported the rapper with K5 million.
Grand Palace Marketing Manager Gregory Maulana said they regard Gwamba as their brand ambassador, hence the gesture.
“This is not our first time to support him and this will be a journey. We know that, everywhere he goes, he has a lot of followers who need a lot of services such as accommodation. So, we know that his coming in the city will also give us business,” Maulana said.
Gwamba, real name Duncan Zgambo, hailed Grand Palace for the K5 million.
“It is an honour and I am so humbled, I am so happy. It is not so many times in Malawi businesses that support art or entertainment.
“This is not the first time Grand Palace has come in for me. Two years ago, we had a similar event here. The K5 million will go a long way in offering support as such big shows demand a lot of money,” Gwamba said.
He called on companies and organisations to take an interest in supporting the creative sector.
Gwamba has since said that he will give a chance to 30 budding artists to perform at the concert.
“Often times, up-and- coming artists are not given a chance to share the stage with top artists and focus is only on established artists,” the artist said.
This will not be the first time for Gwamba to hold a concert in the Green City, as the previous one was held in 2021.
