As of 15 September, 651 521 confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been reported, with 772 new ones identified in the last 24 hours.

According to a statement by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, Gauteng still accounts for 33.1% of all confirmed cases of the virus, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 17.9% and the Western Cape with 16.7% of the total cases.

As of 15 September, a total of 583 126 recoveries had been recorded, which translated to a recovery rate of 89.5%.
The total number of active cases are 52 754.

Covid-19 related deaths
The Covid-19 death toll also rose, as 142 new Covid-19 related deaths were reported on Tuesday evening.
According to Mkhize, 67 of the new deaths were reported in Limpopo, 19 in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal 16, Western Cape 13, Gauteng 12, Northern Cape11, and four new deaths were reported in the Eastern Cape.
"We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers that treated the deceased patients," Mkhize said.
As of 15 September, the confirmed Covid-19 related death toll was 15 641.
