I Adjusted My Life Expectations, and I’m Happier For It
I recently realized that I’ve adjusted my life expectations over the last few years, and I’m much happier for it. Maybe it was simply growing up. Maybe it was coming to grips with reality. I don’t know, and I actually don’t care, but I’m in love with my new outlook on life…
CAREER
I’m a writer first and foremost. I’ll never let that one go. My past aspirations included:
Nobel Prize for Literature (like Toni Morrison)
Pulitzer Prize for Literature
Guggenheim Fellowship for Literature
Have a short story published in the New Yorker
Write a book that’s assigned reading in classrooms across America
Have a movie adapted from one of my books
Sell millions of books and become a multi-millionaire from my book sales
Seven-figure book deal with a major publishing company
Please don’t laugh…
ADJUSTED CAREER EXPECTATIONS
Self-Publish through Amazon (a book or two a year, also short stories)…Thank you Amazon for making self-publishing accessible and profitable.
Earn six figures annually from my writing
If that fails, or because I want to, find a career that isn’t teaching (even if it involves more education). It’s never too late to start a new career!
However, I will say, I have faith that my writing will be financially sustainable…
MONEY/FINANCES
I had a vision board…so take away from that what you will…
Own a multi-million dollar home and a vacation home
Travel, whenever I felt like it, to exotic and faraway destinations
I wanted my dream home to have two kitchens, a home movie theater, and an infinity pool
I wanted an Aston Martin because…why not?
I wanted to be a multi-millionaire
And, why not? I had read, attended seminars, and even heard preachers, say, over and over again, that you could have these things if you believed and worked…
