A Durban homeowner allegedly shot three suspected house robbers in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The scene in Grace Avenue, near Westwood Mall, was still active on Wednesday morning with emergency services officials and police in attendance.

Red Line Response spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said two people died and a third was receiving treatment.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala, at around 06:45, three unknown men entered the house and robbed the occupants.

"The said suspects were approached by the owner of the house and shots were fired. Two suspects were declared dead at the scene while the other was taken to hospital for medical attention.

"Charges of robbery, attempted murder and inquest have been opened at Westville police station for investigation," Gwala said.
