Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr. is pleased with his ministry’s accomplishments during the first 100 days, but admits there is much work ahead.

Ramson Jr., made those and other statements as the guest of the Sean Devers Sports Watch Radio programme on Friday night.

According to the Minister, the aggressive implementation of a new culture and programmes and the ascension of the overall profile of the ministry is what he is most proud of.

“I am pretty pleased about how we have been able to drive our own programmes, develop our own culture and raise the profile of the ministry in a very short space of time. It is a ministry that is really showcasing itself  and Guyanese talent,” he declared.

Ramson added “What I am pleased about overall is the team, meaning the Cabinet and the President and the energy being driven into the government programmes. I am also pleased about ideas coming from the President and Cabinet and the aggressive way they are being advanced.”

Prior to taking office, Culture, Youth and Sport were simply departments within the Ministry of Social Cohesion; as a result, it lacked the necessary attention for such large sectors.

Said Ramson Jr., “I think over the past five years it had become almost like a disappointment of a ministry because it was not given the attention and the strong leadership it needed. The sectors were just relegated to being departments. We no longer had a Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport operating in a prominent way.”

The ministry has made a complete turn around and Ramson Jr., has been busy engaging federations, restarting the process of implementing the Sports Policy, Regional and Assessment Visits and Community Outreaches etc. (Emmerson Campbell)
