Serena Williams Shares Pic of Her Daughter Watching Her Play Tennis, Fans Say She’s ‘Taking Notes’

Shortly after breaking the record for most U.S. Open singles-match wins, tennis star Serena Williams shared a cute Instagram picture of her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. watching from the sidelines.

The image appeared in a Wednesday, Sept. 2 post with the caption “Princess.”

One fan commented, “Future Grand Slam Champion.”

“Teaching her young ❤️,” a second fan wrote.

A third fan gushed, “Omg. This picture is EVERYTHING!!! ❤️ ICONIC!!”

“You go Serena!” a fourth fan cheered.

A fifth fan said, “Two queens!! 🙌🏼👑💜”

The six-time U.S. Open champion made history on Tuesday, Sept. 1, by winning her opening match against Kristie Ahn according to CNN. With the win, she surpassed Chris Evert as the all-time leader in matches won at the U.S. Open. When talking to reporters about the victory Williams said, “I don’t think I appreciate it enough, which is unfortunate…But I’m in the middle of a grand slam, so it’s not the time to be focused […] on records when I’m thinking about winning a tournament.”

Williams made history again on Monday, Sept. 7 by becoming the only tennis player to win 100 games at the iconic Arthur Ashe stadium during her match against Maria Sakkari. Her win over Sakkari placed her in the U.S. Open’s quarterfinals.

Her monumental victories comes after the tennis player faced multiple setbacks. One included almost dying while giving birth to her now three-year-old daughter back in 2017.

The tennis star said 24 hours after giving birth, she developed blood clots on her arteries and suffered shortness of breath. She also had a swollen blood clot in her abdomen, and her C-section wound ruptured due to heavy coughing.

Another setback — this one on the court — occurred when Williams lost to Naomi Osaka during her 2018 open match.

Williams publicly apologized to Osaka for her response to the controversial call from the umpire. She wrote a letter to the 22-year-old saying, “Hey, Naomi! It’s Serena Williams. As I said on the court, I am so proud of you and I am truly sorry,” she wrote. “I thought I was doing the right thing in sticking up for myself. But I had no idea the media would pit us against each other.”

Williams received a violation for allegedly cheating after her trainer was caught coaching her from the stands, something he later admitted to doing. She also received a $17,000 fine at the end of the match. Williams said this loss made her seek professional help.

Williams’ next match is set for Wednesday, Sept. 9 against Tsvetana Pironkova.
