COMEDIAN AND actor Michael Dapaah shared his experience of racism on Instagram, after being racially profiled in a corner shop.

He shared: “I’m absolutely fuming right now, you see the racial profiling I just experienced.”

Dapaah explained that he had walked into a corner shop to buy a drink for someone.

When he learned that the shop owner had a £5 minimum card spend, he decided to go to Tesco instead, because he did not need anything else.

The shopkeeper then took the drink and put it back on the fridge. When he came back he accused Dapaah of shoplifting.

Dapaah explained: “When he comes back to where I’m standing, he says: ‘You put something in your pocket! What’s in your pocket?’”

Dapaah showed the shopkeeper that only his keys were in his pocket.

Next he challenged the shopkeeper, saying: “When you make an assumption and get it wrong, you have to apologise.”

According to Dapaah, the shopkeeper suggested that he was suspicious because Dapaah stood by the counter.

Dapaah then asked if the shopkeeper was racist. The shopkeeper did not deny being racist.

Instead, he suggested that being racist was understandable.

Speaking on his Instagram stories, the comedian said: “You know I don’t come on here with all this energy.

“It’s always mad love and banter, but you see when things need to be said they need to be said.”

In the videos on his Instagram, he went on to share some positivity, encouraging young, Black people to continue chasing their goals

He said: “There should never be a time when anyone ever feels they can talk down to you, or make you feel some kind of way because of how you’re dressed or how you look.”

Dapaah also expressed that the ordeal would just motivate him to work harder.

“They cannot prevail,” he said.
