Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles centers continue to operate by appointment only as the coronavirus pandemic rages on, with the agency’s case backlog reaching three months in most cases.
After Gov. Ralph Northam announced in March that the agency’s 75 locations would close, DMV which served about 17,700 people a day prior to the pandemic, began reopening sites throughout the summer, serving about 11,000 people per day, Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
Meanwhile, vehicle registration, driver’s license renewal and title replacements can still be done virtually, the Times-Dispatch reported.
As of Monday, Virginia has recorded roughly 183,000 coronavirus cases and 3,700 related deaths, according to a state health department tracker.
