Sport unites to say thank you to NHS workers

Tribute scheduled for 17:00 BST on Sunday, July 5 when individuals are being requested to applaud on their doorsteps

VARIOUS SPORTS throughout England will pay tribute to NHS workers when the organisation marks its 72nd anniversary on Sunday, July 5.

Team GB and the Football Association are among the many sporting obodies supporting the tribute. It is scheduled for 17:00 BST when individuals are being requested to applaud on their doorsteps.

The England and Wales Cricket Board, Rugby Football Union, Premier League, English Football League and Premiership Rugby are additionally marking the event.

As well as highlighting the importance of the continuing work that sport has being doing to help sustain its communities throughout the period and the support given to the NHS nationally and locally, the sports will be making their own personal thank you to a variety of key workers, NHS staff and sports fans.

The NHS has been working with the newly founded Together Coalition to bring along people and organisations to mark the work of the public and NHS in helping the country get through the pandemic.

How sport is paying tribute:

  • The FA could have a #ThankYouTogether mosaic on Wembley’s massive screens over the weekend
  • Premier League and EFL matches this weekend will likely be preceded by a second of applause
  • England’s Test collection in opposition to West Indies will likely be named the #raisethebat collection
  • England’s rugby union head coach Eddie Jones and his gamers will file a private thanks message
  • Premiership Rugby gamers and coaches may even be recording private thanks messages to key employees
