City Council probing reported Prashad Nagar alleyway blockage

Deputy Mayor Alfred Mentore has said that the city council’s Supervising Build-ing Inspector (ag), Marlon Harris has been asked to investigate a report that works being done by a Prashad Nagar homeowner have resulted in the blocking of an alleyway.

In a brief interview with Stabroek News, Mentore stated that a copy of a letter, written by a concerned Deobirana Street resident, was forwarded for action.

He noted that the inspector was asked to look into the matter with a degree of rapidity and he is now awaiting a report on the matter.

In a follow-up letter published in Stabroek News, the resident of Deobirana Street registered concerns about extended work being done by a homeowner over the alleyway, blocking off the drainage, to “build for himself, family and friends a bar in which they can gather late into the nights breaking curfew measures.”

The latest update stated that the homeowner has gone ahead to tile the remaining part of the alleyway so that he can extend his entertainment area. The resident made mention of recent heavy rainfall and said that it resulted in several of the neighbouring homes being flooded. “Two of my neighbours are now in the process of raising their yards and bottom flats to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars in a time when COVID-19 has caused a lot of us to be without a proper or stable income.”

The letter asked that the Mayor and City Council intervene.
