Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has launched a scathing attack on government for ‘robbing’ Paarl residents of colour by ‘prioritising the luxuries of white’ people.

The former Springbok coach released a statement claiming the Democratic Alliance (DA) municipality in Paarl has decided to build a storm drain beneath the only sports field of Nooderpaarl High School.

Peter de Villiers lashes out at the DA

Peter de Villiers believes that the municipality are targeting underprivileged schools while privileged ‘white’ schools with over seven fields in the area are being left alone.

“After the DA-led municipality failed to implement its plan to rob the Paarl community of its sports stadium by giving it to a formerly privileged school, it has again shown its contempt for people of colour by granting permission for a stormwater drain to be dug across a school playground.” Peter de Villiers said on Facebook.

“The stormwater drain will service a new suburb and shopping centre. Noorderpaarl High School is always in the firing line when it comes to development plans for the white residents of Paarl.

“First, the school was vacated as a result of an apartheid eviction order, but the hand of God prevailed over these demon spirits. Then the authorities wanted to turn the school’s sports field into an emergency landing strip for helicopters, then they wanted to build houses on the land.”

The municipality are targeting the poor

“The school has just one sports field. This is a relative luxury. Most schools for children of colour in Paarl have no sports facilities at all, because the town prioritises luxurious lifestyles for whites.” Peter de Villiers added.

“Two years ago, Noorderpaarl’s learners were stopped from using the Boy Louw complex in the area for sports training. Children from relatively poor homes were effectively told to go and play in the street, while money was found to build the La Rochelle indoor sports complex for the rich.”
