Obituary – Vernon Ray Torrey

Vernon Ray Torrey was born to Ray Arthur Torrey and Ethel Louise Ross Hollingsworth on March 27, 1964 in Seattle, WA. He grew up in Seattle’s Central District-Leschi Neighborhood.

Torrey attended Garfield High School, graduated from Kent Meridian High School, and attended Bishop College in Marshall, TX. He spent his last five years of life as a 5-Star Uber Driver. He was a former Merchant Marine, and resided in Honolulu, HI during that time. Also, he was formerly employed at Franz Bakery for numerous years. When Torrey was a child, he played little league baseball and football with CAYA, and basketball with the Dunk Kings and Mountlake. He was a point guard for Garfield High School’s Basketball Team, and a running back for Garfield High School’s Football Team. He also helped take Kent Meridian High School’s Football and Basketball Teams to State in the early 1980’s.

Torrey was an exceptional single-father and very family-oriented. He was very close with all his family and friends. Torrey had an extremely close bond with his daughter, and spent many years with her mother and his former wife Felecia Drummer. He helped raise Levi Ragsdale, who he considered as his son, and spent many years with his mother, Beth Roth.

Torrey was hilarious. He was always the life of any party, and brought much joy to the room. The Lord called him home on November 2, 2020. Torrey was preceded in death by his father Ray Arthur Torrey, step-father Don Merrill Hollingsworth, and sister Lynn R. White. Torrey is survived by his daughter Verlecia R. Torrey, mother Ethel Louise Hollingsworth; sisters Iris Watkins, and Thea Holmes (Terry); special friend Michelle Sanders-Orduna; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; cousins and a host of friends.
