(Barbados Nation) The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) said in a bulletin on its Facebook Page yesterday that there was another explosive eruption of the La Soufriere Volcano in St Vincent and the Grenadines at 4:49 p.m. yesterday. The bulletin said that prior to this eruption, it had been 52 hours since the last explosive event.

UWI-SRC said there have now been 30 identifiable explosive events since the beginning of this eruptive phase on April 9.

“Explosions with accompanying ashfall, of similar or larger magnitude, could restart in the future impacting St Vincent and neighbouring islands,” the bulletin said.

The UWI-SRC also said that the alert level for La Soufrière is at Red.

The Centre has also advised the public to visit the International Volcanic Hazard Health Network for volcanic ash information and resources: www.ivhhn.org/information. (UWI-SRC)
