It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for Queen Elizabeth II, particularly having said to goodbye to Prince Philip, who had been her husband and companion for more than 70 years. But now the Queen has suffered the loss of another confidant, Sir Michael Oswald, her former racing advisor and longtime friend.

Oswald died at the age of 86 on Saturday, 17 April 2021, the very same day Prince Philip was laid to rest.

The timing of it couldn’t have been worse, as the Queen is turning 95 on Wednesday, April 21 – but some international media houses suggest it will be a rather sombre occasion for her this time.

According to the UK’s Times, Oswald succumbed to a long-term illness.

Queen Elizabeth II’s lifelong friend, Sir Michael Oswald remembered

His wife, Lady Angela, previously served as a lady-in-waiting to the Queen Mother, the late mother of Queen Elizabeth II. Lady Angela paid tribute to her now late husband in a statement.

“He always said he had the most wonderful job anybody could ever have had, and that for all his working life he was simply doing what he would have done had he been a rich man who didn’t have to work,” she said in an interview with Blood Horse magazine.

Oswald served as a manager of the Royal Studs for 28 years and was also a racing manager to the Queen Mother before her death.

The Queen’s current advisor John Warren, also spoke to the publication.

“Sir Michael did a magnificent job managing the Royal Studs for so long. He was deeply committed to the studs, the Queen, and the Queen Mother. He was extraordinarily enthusiastic and got such a buzz out of all the royal winners,” he said.

The Royal Family, particularly the Queen and Prince Philip, have been known to be fond of horses.
