A Limpopo mother appeared in court for allegedly beating her 11-month-old child to death.
Mutavhatsindi Ndishavhani, 42, appeared in the Tshaulu Periodical Court after she was arrested in June at her home in Ha-Limbani, Tswinganani village.
She is alleged to have locked herself and her son inside her home and then allegedly beat him to death.

"Community members heard the cry of the baby and rushed to the house. When they realised that the door was locked, they broke it down and rescued the badly injured baby from the mother," said NPA spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.
The baby was rushed to Lambani Clinic, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The circumstances around the assault have not yet been revealed.
The mother has been sent for mental observation, and the matter will be back in court on 31 August.
