Kaizer Chiefs are coming off the back of a morale-boosting win over Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby which broke a four-match losing run in all competitions and a three-match losing streak against the Buccanneers.

Samir Nurkovic finally delivered for the Glamour Boys with a stunning overhead kick in the derby having scored just one goal in his previous 14 matches. And Gavin Hunt will be looking for the Serbian to find the same consistency he had last season.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has become perhaps the most important figure in the Kaizer Chiefs’ midfield at just 21 years of age and is surely deserving of a Bafana Bafana call-up.

Kaizer Chiefs were hammered 4-0 in the reverse fixture by Wydad in neutral Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.

Despite being clear underdogs, the playmaker is optimistic about his side’s chances.

“That was not an easy game against Pirates but it was a nice game actually,” Nkosingiphile Ngcobo told the media.

“We are happy we managed to get the three points so I think that will boost our confidence and momentum going forward. We just have to keep up the spirit and keep going. Obviously, Wydad are a good team but we just have to make sure that we prepare very well and I am confident that we can beat them. We just have to be confident.”

Kaizer Chiefs face an uphill task of progressing to the knockout stages as they are in third in Group C equal on points with second-placed Horoya with Wydad first.

Kaizer Chiefs meet Horoya in their final game and Hunt’s side won’t want to leave it to the last group stage game.

“I think they [Wydad] just capitalised on the chances they got and the little mistakes that we committed [in the first leg] and they were able to get the ball in the back of the net,” said Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.

“We still have a big chance [to progress to the knockout phase], we just have to make sure that we win all the games that are left and then we will be fine. They [Wydad] won the first game against us so I think they will be more careful and we just have to go with them and make sure that we win.

“We are in high spirits as a team, we know that we can win the games we are left with. We just have to be confident and keep pushing and we will go through.”
