The national police headquarters in Pretoria has closed temporarily after an employee tested positive for Covid-19.

The employee, who has not been identified, was informed on Wednesday about the results.

The employee is attached to the human resources division.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo confirmed his colleague had tested positive for the coronavirus and other colleagues had been informed.

He said the concerned employee's commander was notified.

Working from home

"All members, who work at the headquarters, were immediately informed on Wednesday that they must not report for work today. They are currently working in their homes while the entire office is being cleaned."

Naidoo said the decontamination of the offices had begun on Thursday morning and would continue until the area had been declared safe for workers to return.

"All members, who might have been in direct or indirect contact with the affected employee, will be screened and tested if necessary.

"We call on all members not to panic. We want to inform people that service delivery is continuing as members work remotely away from the headquarters," he added.
