A North West financial manager, who is accused of stealing R9.1 million from his employer, Botselo Mills (Pty) Ltd, allegedly manipulated the company's financial system and made payments into his personal accounts.

Reginald Scholtz, 57, appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Vryburg on Tuesday, where his case was postponed to 19 July for further consultations.

North West National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the accused's attorneys required further particulars, and the State had submitted all the necessary documents in preparation for pretrial conferencing.

Scholtz faces 61 charges of theft, amounting to R 9.1 million.

"Scholtz was arrested by SAPS' Provincial Commercial Crimes Unit on 12 March 2023 after he was charged for allegedly stealing the monies from Botselo Mills [Pty] Ltd, where he was employed as the group financial manager."

Mamothame added:

According to the Hawks, Scholtz had three bank accounts from three banking institutions, and from January 2017 to August 2022, he fraudulently transferred money into these accounts under the pretence of paying service providers, as he had the authority to access the company's banking systems.

Scholtz allegedly created forms requiring authorisation and approval for the company's release of funds to be paid to service providers.

"His fraudulent ways of manipulating the company's financial system would eventually result in payments into his accounts," added Mamothame.

He said Scholtz was granted R10 000 bail by the Delareyville Magistrate's Court and was ordered to surrender his passport to the investigating officer.

The head of the Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit in the North West, advocate Bongani Chauke, who is also representing the State in the case, added investigations were complete, and the State was ready to go to trial.
