This past weekend, graduates from Spelman College's class of 2021 celebrated a major milestone and we couldn't be more proud.

The alumnae posted photos and videos on social media for the world to see of them as graduates of one of the most prominent historically Black colleges.

The ceremony also featured renowned political activist and author Angela Davis who was presented with a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree.

"I have felt a sense of connection to Spelman for almost as long as I can remember," the former Black Panther Party member said during the ceremony.

"When I think of Spelman, I think of generations of Black women who have helped to change the world, including of course, Alice Walker, including your own professor Bernice Johnson Reagan and one of the major protagonists of our contemporary struggle for democracy, Stacey Abrams," she continued.

Some graduates got emotional while sharing the new milestone, showcasing their pride and joy for being a Spelman alumna.

According to U.S. News & World Report, Spelman was ranked 54th in 2021's Best National Liberal Arts, as Blavity previously reported. The private institution was founded in 1881 for Black women exclusively, and currently has an undergraduate population of 2,120.

Jailyn Clark, a 2021 graduate, shared a few words on how Spelman has transformed her into the leader that she is today.

"In spring 2016, when I visited Spelman on Class Day as a junior in high school, I remember telling a Golden Girl in the class of 1966 that I planned to attend Spelman College and graduate in 2021," she said. "In my four years at Spelman, I have been shaped into a change-seeking leader, undaunted and determined to ascend to new heights."

"For me, Spelman is so much more than just an institution. Spelman is home. While I completed my degree virtually, I was and still am grateful for the community of students, faculty, and alumnae who continue to bring Spelman with them wherever they go," she added.

Osarugue Otebele, class of 2021's valedictorian, offered words of encouragement to her peers during her commencement speech.

"Be gentle to yourselves, because this world is not always gentle to us," she said.

"I am proud to say that I am a member of this class, and as we all go on into new phases of our lives, do remember that I am and always will be your Spelman sister," she concluded.

Congratulations to the Spelman College class of 2021!
