A man was shot dead at a Durban guest lodge in Seaview on Monday evening.

KwaZulu-Natal police are now working to piece together the details of the shooting, which followed an alleged altercation between two men.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said a man had been arrested after he attempted to flee the scene.

"A case of murder has been opened at Bellair SAPS for investigation. It is alleged that on Monday at 17:10, two men booked into a lodge," she said.

"An argument broke out and a 36-year-old male victim was shot multiple times in the body. He was declared dead on the scene."

Jumped out of window

A suspect, who was at the scene, allegedly spotted the police approaching the premises and attempted to flee on foot by jumping out of the window. He was injured in the process.

Mbele said the man was arrested and taken to hospital under police guard.

Sources said the man had been naked at the time, although this could not be confirmed at the time of publication.

Owners of the lodge confirmed to News24 that they were aware of the incident, but did not have any details.

The lodge provides "adult accommodation", with rates for two-hour stays and short-term accommodation.
