Baroka FC and Bloemfontein Celtic mark the eagerly anticipated return of football in the country when they meet in the first fixture of South African football’s ‘new normal’ in the Nedbank Cup.

Both teams will be greeted by empty seats when they face off in the first Nedbank Cup semifinal at the Orlando Stadium this afternoon due to fans not being allowed to attend matches.

Maduka warns fans of ‘slow’ start between Baroka and Celtic

The last time either team featured in competitive action was all the way back in March 2020. Newly promoted Bloemfontein Celtic head coach has since warned fans to expect a slow start at the Orlando Stadium following the lengthy break.

“In Europe you will have seen that most of the teams started slowly and we expect the same thing to happen with us‚” Maduka told the media.

“Games won’t be fast like they were before the break in March because it has been a long time without playing football. We have never been through this situation before but it will improve as more matches are played.”
