Singer Terisa Griffin, provides Laptops for College-Bound Students

Terisa Griffin is a singer, songwriter, performer, and philanthropist who has made a name for herself locally and internationally. She has performed on stages around the world but felt her life and music called her to a great purpose.  She wanted to reach deeper into the lives of the people she touched through her music and created the Better Love Yourself, Inc organization which provides college-bound freshmen with necessities to begin their education.

Established as a 501-3(C) in 2007, the mission of Better Love Yourself is to provide college-bound young men and women with necessities and pearls of knowledge, coupled with higher learning tools.  According to Terisa Griffin’s website, the nonprofit organization hopes to help develop the road map for young adults to learn and master the art of loving and caring for themselves.  Her dream is to fill the trunks of every inspired student who wants to attend college because “a mind is a terrible thing to waste,” and ” a dream is a pearl waiting to be defined.”

Since its inception 13 years ago, the Better Love Yourself organization has gifted more than 2,500 trunk parties across seven cities and supported first-generation college students with thousands of dollars in book stipends, scholarships, and more. During the application process, college-bound students are asked to share their goals and how they helped their community during their senior year of high school.

Normally students would receive a trunk filled with college essentials. This year, with so many students facing the possibility of attending college from home, the Better Love Yourself organization is instead providing tablets and laptops to college-bound students.  This year’s event will take place pep rally-style with a virtual twist — happening Saturday, August 2nd.
