Attempted murder charge for Baramita woman who stabbed drinking partner

The police have been advised to institute an attempted murder charge against Otina Scott who allegedly stabbed her drinking partner during an argument on Friday night at Baramita Village, North West District (NWD).

Stabroek News was informed that Joanna John, 25, was stabbed several times about her body during the incident which occurred around 21.50hrs at Barama Line, Baramita Village, NWD.

She was taken to the Baramita Health Centre where she was treated and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). John’s condition is listed as serious.

The police said investigations revealed that John and Scott were consuming alcohol at a shop when an argument ensued between them.

During the process, the suspect armed herself with a broken bottle and allegedly stabbed John several times about her body.

As a result of the injuries, John fell to the ground in a semi-conscious state.

The police were summoned and the suspect was arrested.

A file was prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecu-tions (DPP), who advised that the suspect be charged with attempted murder.

Scott, 25, is scheduled to appear at the Port Kaituma Magistrate’s Court today.
