Virtual basketball workshop set for today

With the aim of increasing the scope of the 3×3 format, the Central American and Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CONCENCABA), will officially conduct a virtual 3×3 Workshop Platform today.

This was revealed by Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) National 3×3 coordinator Junior Hercules during a brief interview yesterday with Stabroek Sport.

According to Hercules, “This Workshop will provide both private and non-federation members with an opportunity to be FIBA trained to operate the 3×3 platform. Access to the platform means you can officially create a 3×3 FIBA Tournament locally, regional and international for that matter.  At the end of the training, you will be required to sit a 3×3 Elearning test to determine your 3×3 competence to operate the platform.”

The course which will be presented by CONCENCABA Secretary Patrick Haynes, is titled ‘Intro to FIBA 3×3 Learning Platform’. It is slated to commence at 18:00hrs.

Hercules revealed that the seminar is open to everyone via registration on the entity’s official website and, that officials from the respective associations under the umbrella of the GABF should grasp the opportunity in an effort to further their knowledge of the emerging format.

He added, “Guyana basketball associations of Linden, Berbice, Bartica, and Georgetown should take full opportunity of this training. There is no restriction on the number of persons allowed to take the virtual training. In fact, anyone who may want to organize or learn more about 3×3 should attend this workshop.”

According to Hercules, an increase in the number of certified officials have the potential to improve and increase Guyana’s chances of qualifying for several international events, which further highlights the importance of the impending training forum.

He opined, “With more Certified FIBA organizers Guyana can accelerate the journey towards the 3×3 Olympics. Every time a 3×3 FIBA tournament is played Guyana Basketball acquires FIBA ranking points which increase our world ranking points thereby allowing us multiple opportunities for advancement in 3×3 Tours, World Tour, World Cup ultimately  3×3 Olympics.”

Hercules further added, “I have served as Guyana official 3×3 national Coordinator and the journey has been fun and challenging. Fun in that you can see the excitement in players’ faces knowing they are in control of the game which is played at a fast pace and put the ultimate power in the hands of the players. No coach or coaching during the game.  It was challenging knowing I am the only one with the responsibility for organizing FIBA sanction tournaments. Guyana deserves multiple FIBA sanction 3×3 Organisers.”
