  • A body that was found in Schauderville, Gqeberha earlier this month has been identified.
  • The man went missing while at a tavern with a friend and his body was found in a bag next to a school.
  • In another incident, police are trying to trace the family of a man, whose first name has been established as Vuyani, after he was stabbed to death in Gqeberha.

A body that was found about a week ago next to a school in Grundlingh Street in Schauderville, Gqeberha has been identified.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the body was identified as that of 35-year-old man, Siyabulela Zonqo, who had gone out with a friend on 29 November after he spent the day looking for a job.

"It is alleged that Zonqo and a friend left their home in Veeplaas to look for a job. At about 15:00 on the same day, they visited a tavern in Korsten. When at about 18:00, his friend [looked] for him [so that they could] go home, he was nowhere to be found," Naidu said.

Days later, on 3 December, a man found Zonqo's body while rummaging through bushes in Schauderville for scrap.

"He noticed a big cream bag lying behind a tree and against the wall. He opened the bag and found a body of a male who was already in a state of decomposition. The deceased person had a belt around the neck, hands tied behind his back with another belt, and his feet bound with sellotape. The bag was also tied up," Naidu added.

The circumstances of Zonqo's disappearance and murder are under investigation.

Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact Detective Sergeant Landiswa Sokanyile on 073 448 5539.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, Eastern Cape police are looking for the relatives of a man who was stabbed to death during an argument on Saturday in Gqeberha.

"The victim's wallet and cellphone were taken but [have] not yet [been] recovered. The victim managed to supply his first name as Vuyani prior to his death. He is either from Pato, Palo or Polo streets in KwaNobuhle.

"Enquiries were made by police in KwaNobuhle with no positive results," Naidu said.

He wore denim jeans, a white T-shirt and a dark-coloured jacket, and had bushy hair and a beard.

Luvuyo Manziya, 35, was arrested for the murder on Tuesday.

He appeared in court and will remain in custody until his next appearance on 13 December.

Anyone who can assist in tracing the victim's family can contact Detective Constable Shaun Mabonda on 078 943 7655.
