Cops in deadly Horizon Park shooting among national honours recipients
The four policemen shot in the deadly Horizon Park operation in June are to receive national awards for gallantry on Heroes Day.
Superintendent Leon Clunis, Corporal Dane Biggs and Constable Decardo Hylton will be awarded posthumously, while District Constable Lothan Richards is expected to mount the prestigious King’s House platform to accept the Medal of Honour for Gallantry.
The four are listed among scores of recipients of national honours and awards in various categories, published today in The Gleaner.
Clunis passed away in hospital weeks after the shooting, while Hylton and Biggs died during the June 12 tragedy.
Richards was treated at hospital and later released.
This year, academic, Professor Orlando Patterson heads the list of award recipients.
He will receive the third highest national honour, the Order of Merit, for highly distinguished international service to academia, West Indies Literature, Sociology, and the social culture.
