Opposition APC leadership hit by multiple deaths in road accident

Sierra Leone Telegraph: 5 July 2020:

Sierra Leone’s main opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC) today suffered a massive blow, after a vehicle carrying three of the party’s Northern region’s senior officials, were killed in a road traffic accident on their way to Freetown from Kabala, Koinadugu District.

Mr Momoh Konteh, who is the party’s Koinadugu district’s chairman, died alongside Saio Marrah and Alakuma Conteh.

Momoh Konteh was the former chairman of the country’s National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) under the government of Ernest Bai Koroma’s APC.

Saio Marrah is the Deputy Chairman of the APC Northern Region, and Alakuma Conteh is the Public Relation Officer of the APC Northern Region.

According to reports, the gruesome accident took place at Kathankena, a mile from Binkolo, Bombali District.

It is not clear what may have caused the accident, but from photos seen by the Sierra Leone Telegraph, it doesn’t seem as though there was any other vehicle involved.

Momoh Konte, Saio Marah and Alakuma will be laid to rest in Kabala Town on Friday 10th July 2020. They will be taken to Kabala on Thursday.

A statement published by the APC Northern Region Office reads:  “The Northern Region is deeply saddened to announce that once again death has struck our Executive, this time snatching away at once, three of our very senior Executive Officers. Deputy Regional Chair, Comrade Saio Marah, a hard working and promising young man; Chairman Koinadugu district, Comrade Momoh Konteh, former chair of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), who’s without doubt a dependable pillar for the Party not just in Koinadugu; and thirdly the Regional Public Relations Officer, Comrade Nfagie Alakuma Conteh, a very amiable personality; met their untimely demise in a gruesome road accident on the highway between Kabala and Makeni. This devastating tragedy occured earlier today 5th July, 2020.

“The APC, the Northern Region and indeed Koinadugu and Falaba have been struck by a terrible loss and we will deeply miss the dedication, loyalty and hard work of  these fallen heroes. As the Northern Region Executive mourns those extraordinary Comrades, we extend our profound and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.”

  1. So SAD. I have to hold my tears to complete reading this article. At the end, I can’t grasp any underlying reason for the cause of the accident. And, whilst I was immersed in trauma for the sudden death of these productive and patriotic compatriots, then came the dismissal of the Attorney General. Now, my attention was divided! Is there any relation between the two incidents? May their endeavour for the development of Sierra Leone bears fruits aplenty; and their souls rest in perfect peace.

  2. In these authoritarian barbaric times, anything tragic can easily happen to anyone that is not in agreement with the regressive ideas and policies of the maleficent SLPP.As of now there are only bits and pieces of stories being patched here and there lacking in credibility with regards to the true cause of the fatal accident that snuffed away three patriotic lives; This tragic incident just might not have been an unfortunate accident but premeditated act of MURDER.

  3. May God forgive our country, we are continuously missing important Sierra Leoneans who are key contributors to national development. Oh God please have mercy upon their lives and grant them paradise.

  4. May their souls rest in peace and may Allah forgives them and grant them Jannah (Paradise). Heroes of the APC Northern region have fallen.

  5. RIP to all the deceased and my heartfelt sympathy to their families. God bless any mission they were engaged in and may their good job/intention bear the fruits of their labour. Amen and Amen. Father God.

    • May their gentle souls rest in peace. We love you brothers but Jesus loves you best. Good night, Good night. Sleep and take your rest.

  6. May their souls rest in peace. That road is one of the most dangerous roads to travel in between Makeni and Kabala. In some areas there are no road markings separating the flow of traffic in the highway. The blind spots and turning of corners is even more dangerous. I think putting road markings will reduce the amount of accidents on that notorious road.

  7. A taxi was also involved in the accident. There’s a photo of it in social media which I believe you can access.

  8. May the Almighty God grant him the highest rank in Hannah. Rest in peace the great hero of koinadugu.

  9. Wow, always a tragedy whenever someone’s life get cut short unnoticed. Really sad for these 3 individuals. Another reminder of our mortality, regardless of what your current situation or political status, sooner or later our maker will summon you for eternity. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.
