Many people are heeding the warning to stay home for the Thanksgiving holiday amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic, but for those choosing to travel anyway, it’ll likely be by automobile, AAA says.

The national motor club said 1.2 million D.C.-area residents will travel for Thanksgiving, with 64% of those surveyed planning to drive, 26% choosing to fly and 10% traveling by bus, train or some other mode of transportation, WRC-TV (Channel 4) reported.

The holiday is usually one of the busiest travel periods of the year, but recent AAA data reports a drop of at least 10% throughout the country because large numbers of people are staying home on the advice of federal and local public health officials.

In the D.C. metropolitan area, at least 80% of people surveyed by AAA are choosing not to travel due to the pandemic, WRC reported.
