Berbice cop dies after complaining of shortness of breath

A Berbice policeman died this morning moments after complaining of shortness of breath.

Police Lance Corporal, Albert Perreira, 44, of Reid Street, Sheet Anchor Village, collapsed in the hall of his home just around 5.30 am, where he was eventually pronounced dead.

He was last stationed at the Springlands Police Station.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement reported  that according to the man’s wife she was awakened by Perreira who was lying on the floor in the hall and having difficulty breathing.

“As a result she went for a glass of water to give him and when she returned she observed that he was motionless”, the statement added.
According to the Force,  the woman contacted the New Amsterdam Hospital for an ambulance “but was unsuccessful, she then contacted the Police, who visited and observed the man lying in the hall motionless.”

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor attached to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. The man’s body was checked for marks of violence but none was seen, the police noted.

The body is presently at the Persaud Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
