Rudy Giuliani, a personal attorney for President Donald Trump who has spearheaded the president’s push to overturn his loss in last month’s election, was admitted to a D.C. hospital Sunday after testing positive for the coronavirus, several news outlets reported.

Giuliani, 76, who has attended hearings in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan and Georgia in recent weeks — sans mask —in hopes of returning Trump to the White House, was admitted to Georgetown University Medical Center, CNN reported.

Trump’s legal team issued a statement saying that Giuliani “tested negative twice immediately preceding his trip to Arizona, Michigan and Georgia. [Giuliani] did not experience any symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 until more than 48 hours after his return.”

The former New York City mayor tweeted Sunday evening, “Thank you to all my friends and followers for all the prayers and kind wishes. I’m getting great care and feeling good. Recovering quickly and keeping up with everything.”

Two Republican state senators in Pennsylvania who attended a Nov. 25 meeting with Giuliani have also since tested positive, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Giuliani, who didn’t wear a mask at that and other meetings and hearings, said in October that he was taking the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure.
