Eskom will resume nationwide load shedding at 09:00 on Tuesday.

This comes after power cuts continued until 22:00 on Monday.

Eskom reintroduced electricity rationing on Friday, the first time the country experienced load shedding since the start of the lockdown in late March.

In a statement on Monday evening, Eskom statement said breakdowns at its Kriel and Medupi stations because of made it harder for the utility to avoid cuts.

"In order to limit the impact of load shedding on morning peak traffic, Eskom will start implementing stage 2 load shedding from 09:00 tomorrow [Tuesday] morning," the statement said.

The  utility said that on Monday afternoon unit 2 of Koeberg Power Station was successfully synchronised onto the grid, while a unit each at Majuba and Lethabo stations returned to service. Koeberg unit 2 has been on cold reserve since April.

However the return of some units to the grid was not enough to allow Eskom to suspend load shedding.
