A KwaZulu-Natal teenager has been arrested for the murder of his 4-year-old relative who was brutally stabbed in the head last week.
On Wednesday, police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said Ntuzuma police made the breakthrough in the murder of Minenhle Mhlongo.
"Following an intensive investigation by Ntuzuma police, a family member has been arrested for the murder of 4-year-old Minenhle Sanelisiwe Mhlongo."
It is alleged that on 23 September Mhlongo was left in the care of a relative while her mother was at work.
"When her mother returned home, she was informed that the little girl went missing and was nowhere to be found," Gwala said.

The next day at around 06:00 the child's body was found in the bushes near her home on Mvemvane Road at M-Section in KwaMashu.
"She had sustained stab wounds to her body as well as a head injury," Gwala said.
She said a case of murder was opened at the Ntuzuma police station for investigation and police "worked tirelessly" to seek justice for the little girl.
"Yesterday afternoon, the investigative team made a breakthrough when they arrested a 15-year-old relative for the murder and recovered a weapon that was used to commit the offence. The suspect is expected to appear before the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court tomorrow."
Recently-appointed provincial police commissioner Major General Thulani Gonya expressed his sympathy to the family and lauded the work of the detectives.
