Triple shooting kills 2 men, wounds 3-year-old

Police say a triple shooting killed two men and wounded a 3-year-old boy in west Philadelphia over the weekend.

Police said the gunfire shortly before 2:30 p.m. Saturday hit two 23-year-old men multiple times. Both were taken to Presbyterian Hospital by private vehicle and pronounced dead minutes later. The child was shot three times in the leg and was listed in stable condition at the hospital.

Police tape is stretched across a street near a residence during a shooting on August 14, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At least six police officers were reportedly wounded in an hours-long standoff with a gunman that prompted a massive law enforcement response in the city’s Nicetown-Tioga neighborhood. The city’s police commissioner, Danielle Outlaw, noted that many began the day celebrating the designation of Juneteenth as a new federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery but “we again found ourselves lamenting as an otherwise beautiful afternoon had been sullied with gun violence.”

Outlaw said two other people wounded in separate shootings were listed in stable condition. No arrests have been reported in any of the cases.

“Every act of gun violence is tragic,” Outlaw said in a statement. “However, it is especially disturbing and sickening when the victims are among our most vulnerable. … While holiday celebrations will continue throughout the city, our investigators will work tirelessly to bring justice to all of those affected by the scourge of gun violence.”

On Thursday, three people were killed — including a man who shot another man on a west Philadelphia street and fled on a dirt bike — and eight others were wounded, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
