Glasgow Rangers manager Steven Gerrard may have hinted at a possible move for Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu.

The Scottish giants have been linked with the Amiens player, who is reportedly valued at €4 million.

Glasgow move imminent for Bongani Zungu

Speaking ahead of Rangers’ victory against Aberdeen in the openning weekend of the Scottish Premier League (SPL), the Liverpool legend said he was expecting new signings at the club.

“I think it’s going to be a unique window in terms of ins and outs because obviously some teams have only recently finished, some leagues are still playing, some players are on holiday,” he said. “I think we will have to patient, we are close and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s new Rangers players in the coming days.”

This was after his assistant, Garry McAllister had confirmed that the former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker was in Rangers’ radar.

“We know who Zungu is but our recruitment in bringing players to the club is ongoing,” he explained when asked about Zungu.

“We’ve been speaking about hordes of players since lockdown. We are constantly on the lookout for players who can come into our team and make it better.”

High demand

Zungu is said to be looking for a new club, following Amiens’ relegation from Ligue One earlier in the year.

The 27-year-old has been linked with two Spanish La Liga outfits, Real Mallorca and Celta Vigo, where his compatriots Quinton Fortune and Benni McCarthy have played respectively.

The player – who was one of Bafana’s heroes at the most recent Afcon tournament in Egypt – has reportedly turned down all offers in favour of a move to Scotland.

Other clubs that have expressed interest in Zungu include Greek giants Olympiacos and French club Racing Strasbourg.
