The New York Police Department is looking for a woman who threw a bottle at a Black woman as she jogged through a neighborhood in Queens last month.
The incident occurred around noon on Aug. 17 but it was publicized this week after video footage of the attack surfaced on social media, according to The New York Post. In the footage, Tiffany Johnson, 37, passes by a woman walking up another street. Suddenly, the unidentified woman throws a bottle toward Johnson. The bottle crashed on the ground, which startled Johnson.
“Get out! Get the f—k out!” the woman yelled before she called Johnson a “f—–g n—-r.”
Johnson asked the woman what her problem was before she continued her jog. It is unclear who recorded the video. After her friend told her about the recording, Johnson reposted it on her own Facebook page and reported the woman.
“She was so loud and aggressive,” Johnson told ABC7 on Wednesday. “She did call me the N-word, and I mean I’m not an N-word, none of us are, but the reality is that this woman felt that she needed me to be that, and I would just say that she needs to look into herself as to why.”
Johnson was not injured by the bottle. However, the clip did not catch the entire altercation.
“She did follow me, kept pursuing me. People saw it, people were getting upset, somebody even threw a bagel in her direction,” she recalled to NBC New York. “It was scary, I didn’t want to see anyone get hurt, I just left.”
During the ABC 7 interview, Johnson claimed the assailant continued to use the N-word and told her to “go back to Africa.” In a separate interview with the New York Post, Johnson called for the woman to be held responsible for her actions. “It’s a hate crime. It’s not acceptable. She has to be [held] responsible for her behavior.”
The woman has not been caught, but the NYPD is looking for her.
The woman is estimated to be about 5 feet 5 with long blond hair and blue eyes, per The New York Post. If caught, the woman faces an assault charge.
