The Department of Basic Education has outlined the new matric exam timetable for the class of 2020. The disrupted schedule has posed a thoroughly unique challenge, but the focus is now on salvaging the school year.
A statement released on Wednesday revealed that there will be a six-week period where all matric exams will be undertaken by more than one million Grade 12 learners, finishing the day before their Christmas holidays:
Five exams will take place earlier than the November schedule: The practical tests for Performing Arts and Visual Arts & Design will take place between 17 July – 23 October 2020. Life Orientation exams, lasting for two hours, will get underway on Monday 19 October. Computer Applications Tech and the Information Technology exam take place at 9:00 on Wednesday 21 October and Thursday 22 October respectively.
Meanwhile, the following statement was issued by the ministry:
“The late commencement of the final Grade 12 examinations will allow schools and learners adequate time to cover the curriculum and also to ensure that ample time is allocated for revision of the syllabus.”
“The minister wishes to reassure all Grade 12 students sitting their matric exams this year that they will be fully supported. We wish all candidates the very best of luck as they prepare for this exam. It has been a challenging year, but you are confident that many of you will make it.”
