Beshear calls on Kentuckians to stick to COVID-19 measures in 'state of the pandemic' address
Just one day after Kentucky surpassed 1,000 COVID-related deaths, the state reported 22 additional deaths -- a new record for individual day reporting.
The grim milestones -- and the fact the state has set back-to-back records for the number of cases reported the past two weeks -- prompted Gov. Andy Beshear to give a special address in which he urged residents to step up their vigilance.
"So now, as Americans, as Kentuckians, it is our time to fulfill our patriotic duty to protect one another and in this fight, that means wearing a mask, social distancing, keeping gatherings to 10 or fewer people,” Beshear said during what he called a “state of the pandemic address.”
Unlike in his daily briefings, Beshear took no questions and only spoke on the pandemic, with no other officials taking the podium.

Earlier in the day, he presided over a ceremony in which Kentucky National Guard soldiers put a wreath in the Capitol rotunda in memory of the state’s COVID victims.
“Shame on anybody, including many of our legislators and those who sit online all day, who claim those deaths aren't real,” Beshear said. “There's a thousand families that'll tell you they are very real and very painful. Let's be better than that.”
